ADHD & Neurodivergence Support

At The Village Black Rock

At The Village Black Rock, we provide supportive, respectful care for individuals seeking guidance around ADHD and neurodivergence. We recognise that differences in attention, focus, organisation, and emotional regulation can shape how a person experiences school, work, relationships, and daily life.

ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition that can influence attention, executive functioning, energy levels, and emotional regulation. Neurodivergence is a broader term that acknowledges the natural diversity in how human brains think, learn, and process information — including ADHD and other neurodevelopmental profiles.

Being neurodivergent is not a flaw or deficit. Many neurodivergent individuals bring creativity, insight, innovation, and unique problem-solving strengths. At the same time, navigating systems designed for neurotypical thinking can sometimes present challenges. Support should be individualised, collaborative, and grounded in understanding.

Important Information for Patients in Victoria

Under current regulations in Victoria, GPs are not able to complete formal diagnostic assessments for ADHD or other neurodevelopmental conditions.

A formal diagnosis must be made by an appropriately qualified specialist, such as a psychiatrist (or paediatrician for children).

However, a GP plays an important role in the process, including:

  • Exploring your experiences and concerns in detail
  • Providing initial screening discussions
  • Identifying co-occurring concerns such as anxiety, mood, or sleep difficulties
  • Referring to an appropriate specialist for assessment
  • Offering ongoing mental health support
  • Assisting with care coordination and treatment monitoring following specialist involvement

Dr Paul Duffy

Dr Paul Duffy is a highly experienced and compassionate General Practitioner with over 30 years of medical experience across the UK and Australia. He spent more than 20 years working in psychiatry, specialising in Learning Disabilities Psychiatry, and holds both MRCPsych and FRACGP qualifications.

Dr Paul brings a holistic, thoughtful approach to consultations related to ADHD and neurodivergence. He works collaboratively with patients to explore their experiences, clarify next steps, and ensure appropriate referral and ongoing support.

As a father of a child with significant neurodivergence, Dr Paul also brings lived experience and deep empathy to his work with individuals and families. His approach is respectful, strengths-focused, and centred on long-term wellbeing.

If you would like to discuss ADHD or neurodivergence — for yourself or your child — we recommend booking a longer consultation to allow adequate time for discussion and planning.

At The Village Black Rock, we are committed to providing affirming, evidence-based care that recognises and respects neurodiverse experiences.

help you choose the most appropriate consultation.

Some patients may benefit from referrals to psychologists, psychiatrists, or allied
health professionals. Your GP will discuss options and help coordinate care where
needed.

ADHD & Neurodivergence Care appointments are privately billed. Fees may vary
depending on the length and type of appointment, and Medicare rebates may apply
where eligible. Our reception team can provide current fee information and help you
book the most appropriate appointment.
