Living in Australia comes with increased UV exposure, making regular skin checks a critical part of your preventive health care. At The Village GP Black Rock, our experienced general practitioners offer comprehensive skin cancer checks to support early detection and management of melanoma and other skin conditions.
We proudly support patients in Black Rock, Beaumaris, Sandringham, Hampton, Parkdale, Mentone, Cheltenham, Brighton East, Hampton East, Bluff Road, Bayside, and Brighton and surrounding Bayside suburbs, providing trusted, local skin check services in a caring and professional setting.
Around 2 in 3 Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70. Detecting skin changes early, especially suspicious moles or sunspots, can greatly improve outcomes and may prevent serious complications.
If you’ve noticed a new mole, a changing lesion, or a spot that looks different to others (often called the “ugly duckling” sign), we recommend booking a GP skin check as soon as possible.
When you visit The Village GP for a skin check, here’s what you can expect:
Tip: Wear loose-fitting clothing and avoid makeup or nail polish on the day of your skin check to ensure a thorough review.
Our doctors, including Dr Benjamin Cronin and Dr Eileen Habashi, have completed additional training in skin cancer detection and minor procedures. You’re in trusted hands with GPs who prioritise evidence-based, preventative care.
Be proactive about your skin health. Book your skin check with The Village GP Black Rock today online or by calling our friendly reception team.
We’re proud to be your local provider of GP-led skin cancer checks in Black Rock and the wider Bayside Melbourne region.
Most Australians benefit from an annual full-body skin check, especially if you have fair skin, a history of sunburns, many moles, or family history of skin cancer. Our GPs may recommend more frequent reviews based on your personal risk profile.
A spot check targets a single lesion or mole you’re concerned about, while a skin check (recommended for most patients) includes a full-body visual exam, dermatoscope assessment, risk review, and personalised advice.
Yes. Wear loose, swimmable-style clothing for easy examination access, and avoid makeup, lotions, deodorant, and nail polish. You can leave these items in your bag to help your GP accurately assess your skin.
Our doctors, including Dr Cronin and Dr Habashi, have extra training in skin cancer care. They can perform minor onsite procedures such as cryotherapy or excisions when needed. If more complex treatment is required, you’ll be referred to a dermatologist.
If your GP identifies a mole or lesion that looks suspicious, they’ll explain the findings and next steps. That could be a short-term review, a biopsy, minor excision at the clinic, or referral to a specialist. Early detection enables the best outcomes.
