Vaccinations & Immunisation Services

At The Village GP Black Rock, we provide comprehensive vaccinations and immunisation services for people of all ages from infants to older adults. Our experienced healthcare team ensures vaccines are administered safely, in line with the Australian National Immunisation Program (NIP) and current clinical guidelines.

Our Vaccination Services

We offer a wide range of vaccines to protect against serious and preventable diseases, including:

  • Influenza (Flu) Vaccine – Annual vaccination, with free options for NIP-eligible individuals.
  • COVID-19 Vaccine – Including booster doses for eligible patients.
  • Shingles (Herpes Zoster) Vaccine – Recommended for adults aged 70 and over.
  • Whooping Cough (Pertussis) Vaccine – For adults, including pregnant women and their partners.
  • Pneumococcal Vaccine – For adults aged 65+ or those with chronic medical conditions.
  • Vitamin B12 Injection – For patients with vitamin B12 deficiencies.
  • 6-Month Childhood Routine Vaccinations – Single needle administration covering Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Hepatitis B, Polio, and Haemophilus influenzae type b.

Childhood vaccinations involve a joint consultation with your GP and our Immunisation Nurse, including a brief developmental review to monitor growth and health milestones.

National Immunisation Program (NIP) Eligibility

Certain groups are eligible for free vaccines under the NIP, including:

  • Children aged 6 months to under 5 years
  • Pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy
  • Adults aged 65 years and over
  • Individuals with chronic medical conditions that increase the risk of severe illness

Non-NIP eligible patients can still access recommended vaccines, such as flu and travel vaccines, for a small fee.

When Should I Get Vaccinated?

The timing of vaccination depends on the type of vaccine and the age or risk group of the patient:

  • Routine childhood vaccines follow the NIP schedule at set intervals from birth to adolescence.
  • Seasonal vaccines (like flu vaccination) are recommended before the start of the season, typically in March–May for optimal protection.
  • Travel vaccinations should be booked at least 4–6 weeks before departure to allow adequate immunity.
  • Other adult vaccines (such as shingles or pneumococcal) should be discussed with your GP based on age, medical history, and personal risk factors.

Our team will provide a tailored vaccination plan and ensure all vaccines are administered safely and at the correct times.

Vaccine Clinic Hours

We operate a dedicated Vaccine Clinic for suitable vaccines. Some vaccinations may not be available during these hours due to age or needle quantity requirements. Contact reception for confirmation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. At The Village GP Black Rock, our GPs and nurses can give multiple vaccines in one appointment, depending on your age, health, and vaccine type. This helps protect you quickly while following Australian safety guidelines.
Yes. Some vaccines, like whooping cough (pertussis) and influenza, are recommended during pregnancy to protect both mother and baby. Our team provides advice for your stage of pregnancy according to Australian guidelines.
Some vaccines need boosters to keep immunity strong. For example, tetanus is recommended every 10 years, and whooping cough is advised for each pregnancy. We keep your records and will remind you when a booster is due.

Yes. Adults who didn’t get all childhood vaccines can catch up. We check your immunisation history and provide the vaccines you need to protect against measles, mumps, rubella, chickenpox, and more.

Mild reactions like soreness, low fever, or tiredness are common and usually go away within 1–2 days. Severe reactions are rare. If you have difficulty breathing, swelling, or a high fever, seek urgent medical help. Our team can advise on monitoring and reporting any side effects.
